Lizard Trampoline Input Device for the "Conductor Program"

This photo didn't come out very well, did it? Well, you'll just have to use your imagination. This is just a mockup, with a brass screen suspended by springs from the sides of an aluminum bread pan. In the final version, the gloves will have conductive finger tips so that even a light contact with the screen can trigger notes; plus, pressure on the surface can continuously control the dynamics -- and, you have multiple areas of control, so you can, for example, swell the wind section on a sustained note while the strings do lighter notes.

My first idea for how to get information out of this was to have spring-loaded potentiometers attached to the screen; a prototype looked like this (spring at right; string going to screen at left):

But the recovery time was way too slow. I think piezoelectric would be better ...
