When you listen to a piece of music, the currently-sounding notes are very noticeable, and the ones which have just sounded are fresh in your mind.

I tried to capture this effect visually by presenting the currently-sounding notes as solid, vivid rhombi, and the recently-heard notes as hollow rhombi that fell and faded away.
