Something I hadn’t appreciated in my first explorations of tuning and scales is that many kinds of scales are constructed by using a bunch of perfect fifths of some size, and then stretching or squeezing the remaining intervals to make up the difference. This fact can be used as a way to organize a lot of historical scales:
